Gilbert Aragon doesn't fool himself: It's going to take time to build the Belen girls basketball team into a quality competitor.

Aragon, who coached the Eagles for more than a decade before a three-year sabbatical, has returned to the bench to guide Belen. The squad is off to a rough start, winning just twice in 12 games.

It might be only the beginning of a beginning.

Aragon, who is bringing a new system to a team full of young players, said his team is making slow, but steady, progress.

"I am starting to see a little bit of improvement," he said. "I just have to be real patient."

Despite the team's record, Aragon said, the Eagles are moving in the right direction because of two things: good attitude and hard work. …
