The number of qualified candidates who are applying for two tenure-track faculty positions at the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is very low compared with recent years, school officials say.

A biology faculty position attracted just 15 candidates, of which six are being considered, Bea Sanchez of the school's recruitment office told the UNM-Valencia Campus Advisory Board at its regular meeting Monday.

A mathematics position drew even fewer candidates, with 14 applying. Of those, just 10 met the minimum requirements.
