Group Seeks Ways To Raise Teacher Morale.

"Children come to school from broken homes. You know they're angry," Lynda Corrado, a fifth-grade teacher at Kaune Elementary School, said Wednesday night. "They have emotional problems. And they're not motivated to learn."

The problem of reaching them has vexed Corrado. Further, with no textbooks this year and the ongoing problem of no budget for materials, she said she has felt unsupported by the Santa Fe Public Schools district for two years now.

Over that period she made $25,000 a year but spent $200 a month on supplies to draw in hard-to-reach students. Luckily, she lived with her sister, who didn't demand high rent.

"I've had to really scrounge," she said.

On Wednesday, Corrado was one of more than 100 teachers, principals, parents and community members crowded around 20 tables at the Scottish Rite Temple. …
