* McEntee changes mind about building a new stadium

A majority of councilors said Wednesday that renovating the existing Sports Stadium offers an economical way of bringing Triple-A baseball back to Albuquerque.

Two investors signed an agreement this week to buy the Calgary Cannons and said they plan to bring the team to Albuquerque in 2002 if voters approve funding for a new or renovated stadium.

Councilor Mike McEntee, formerly an outspoken supporter of a new stadium, said Wednesday that renovating the 32-year-old Sports Stadium may be the best option because of the lower cost.

"My first reaction was that a new stadium was the way to go," he said. …
