The New Mexico Scorpions have reached the midpoint of the Western Professional Hockey League season certainly deserving of praise. The Scorpions lead the league in the most important statistic: winning percentage.

The Scorps (25-9), behind Dave Neilson's two goals and two assists and Randy Murphy's one goal and two assists, defeated the Buzzards 4-3 in El Paso on Wednesday night to record their 14th win their last 17 games. Despite a two-game lull against Corpus Christi right before New Year's, the Scorpions are playing their best hockey of the season.
