High School Programs That Lure Back Students Credited

Albuquerque school officials Wednesday hailed a falling dropout rate as proof that efforts to keep students in school are working.

Albuquerque Public Schools announced that the dropout rate for high school students in the 1999-2000 school year fell to 7.01 percent from 9.21 percent in the previous year. The rate fell at every high school except Rio Grande, which saw a slight increase to 12.2 percent from 11.67 percent.

High schools showing the most improvement include La Cueva, where the rate fell to 1.06 percent from 3.32 percent: Cibola, where the rate fell to 1.85 percent from 4.02 percent; and Manzano, where the rate fell to 2. …
