44 Accidents Reported; Air Traffic Affected

The pea-soup fog that blanketed parts of New Mexico on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning led to poor visibility and icy roads, with at least 44 accidents in the Albuquerque area.

A seven-mile stretch of Interstate 25, from the Broadway exit south to mile marker 208, was closed for about 1 1/2 hours Wednesday morning. Five accidents were reported in that area before the closure.

Northbound lanes of I-25 between Broadway and Rio Bravo also were closed for a time by the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.

Dense fog at the Albuquerque International Sunport early Wednesday night caused nearly a dozen flights to be delayed, said Dave Norman, an airport operations manager. …
