New Mexico Assistant Coach Shepherd Has Resigned.(Sports)

If Moustapha Diagne does play for the University of New Mexico, he will be doing so without his former coach after all.

Dave Shepherd, who was hired as an assistant at UNM just prior to the season, resigned Wednesday. He returned to Texas, where he was an assistant coach at Trinity Valley Community College.

Shepherd is the one who recruited Diagne, a highly touted 7-footer from West Africa, to Trinity.

There has been much speculation that Shepherd was brought in to give the Lobos an edge for Diagne's services. Diagne is considered to be one of the nation's top junior college players, and Cincinnati, among others, is heavily recruiting him. …
