Spring Decision Expected On Bid for Well Water.

Rio Rancho could know by late spring whether its nearly eight-year quest for more well water will succeed.

A hearing in Bernalillo in which lawyers and scientists debated whether Rio Rancho should get more water, and what conditions should apply if it does, ended Wednesday.

Corrales, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Water Rights Division of the Office of State Engineer all weighed in on Rio Rancho's request. Now, the contending sides will file statements on what each believes the outcome and conditions should be.

The statements, called findings of fact and conclusions of law, will be filed with Fred Allen, hearing examiner for the Office of State Engineer. …
