Superintendent To Depart June 30

Mountainair school superintendent Loyd Sellers will retire at the end of the current school year after nine years of service to the Mountainair school district.

Sellers announced at the Jan. 9 school board meeting that he will retire when his current contract runs out June 30.

Sellers became principal of Mountainair Elementary School in 1992 after moving from Las Cruces, where he had taught for 16 years in that elementary school system. After three years as principal, Sellers moved up to superintendent, where he has served for the past six years.

Sellers developed many positive programs in the district, such as take-home computers, computers in the classrooms and a successful after-school program. …
