Residents' Backing, Civic Funding Urged

If an aquatic center in Edgewood is to become a reality, it will take dedication and hard work from area residents.

That was the message members of the East Mountain Aquatic and Recreation Committee gave to about 50 residents of the East Mountains and Estancia Valley who attended a planning meeting Saturday.

A parks and recreation survey done by Santa Fe County four years ago found that most Edgewood-area respondents wanted a swimming pool more than any other recreational amenity.

The local committee was formed last year as an extension of the Edgewood Parks and Recreation Division, a volunteer six-person board, as a way to attract support from neighboring communities. …
