Standard Unlikely To Affect Area Water

Former President Bill Clinton approved a new standard last week for arsenic levels in drinking water.

On Monday the new president, George W. Bush, signed an order halting the standards, issued by the Environmental Protection Agency, until the matter could be studied further.

Regardless of the eventual outcome, local water officials say the new standard would have little effect on water systems throughout the Estancia Valley and East Mountains water in the area does not have high quantities of arsenic, they said.
