Ten Physicians Give Answers to Survey

Doctors in Valencia County are sharply divided about the need for a hospital, according to a recent study.

The 14 physicians practicing in the county were surveyed for the study by Dale Olson of Sandia Consulting of Albuquerque.

Five doctors said there is a need, four disagreed, one said a 24-hour urgent care center would be sufficient, while four didn't respond.

Olson recently presented the study to the County Commission, which is scheduled to publicly discuss it at an upcoming commission meeting.

The study concluded a hospital is needed and that the county can support one of about 49 beds with 24-hour emergency services. …
