Horse Show Schedule Taking Shape in N.M.

We're not looking for crocuses yet, are we? It's still the middle of winter, and horse owners still watch for ice in water buckets, and sharp winds chill the ungloved hand that feeds in the morning.

But stirring in the valley's horse showing community are this month's certain signals that nature has show season 2001 on its way.

January is the traditional time in the Albuquerque area when horse organizations set up show dates, hire judges and get details of the coming season laid out.

It's not too early for the riders, either. Now is the time when they climb back on their horses after a December hiatus and slowly get into condition for the early schooling (practice) shows and, ultimately, the full schedule of approved competitions in the spring and summer. …
