Judge Declines To Grant Injunction

The New Mexico Scorpions are finding the legal system tougher to solve than any goalie in the Western Professional Hockey League.

Scorpions owner Michael Plaman came up empty Thursday in his attempt to overturn a league-imposed penalty for alleged salary cap violations that stripped the team of enough points to keep it out of the playoffs.

In the second round of legal battles between the Scorpions and the Phoenix-based WPHL, a legal machination ruled the day. Santa Fe attorney Jeffrey Brannen, representing the league, successfully convinced U.S. District Judge C. LeRoy Hansen that Arizona has jurisdiction in the issue. …
