Money To Be Set Aside for Projects

Water projects around New Mexico would be able to draw on a new pot of state money if Gov. Gary Johnson signs either of two bills passed by the Legislature.

Both Sen. Patrick Lyons, R-Cuervo, and Rep. Joe Stell, D-Carlsbad, introduced separate bills to take $100 million from the general fund to create a permanent water trust fund and pay for domestic water projects.

Both bills passed, but without all the funding. Lyon's bill ended up with no money and Stell's with $25 million.

A separate supplemental funding bill passed by the House at the last minute would add $10 million to the trust fund in either bill. …
