Experts Urge Long View On Energy Use.

WASHINGTON There is no "silver bullet" to solve America's energy problems, and Congress should adopt policies that promote balance between traditional and alternative fuels, several energy experts told a congressional panel Thursday.

"There are no quick fixes to a serious situation that has developed over the last 25 years," said Red Cavaney, president and chief executive officer of the American Petroleum Institute. "It will take some years to rectify our energy problems."

Cavaney and others testified before a House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior, chaired by N.M. Republican Joe Skeen. Skeen, who represents oil- and natural gas-producing communities in southeastern New Mexico, also called for a balanced approach. …
