2 Councilors Want Downtown Site Off Baseball Ballot.

Others Insist Voters Should Make Choice

A Downtown location for a baseball stadium poses too many hazards and uncertainties for Albuquerque and should be taken off the May 30 special election ballot, two councilors said.

Councilors Tim Kline and Michael Brasher said Thursday they will offer an alternative to Mayor Jim Baca's proposed ballot question. Councilors will consider Baca's election proposal Monday.

But the city's top administrator and others said voters should choose whether they want a Downtown stadium or a renovated Sports Stadium.

If voters opt for a Downtown site, city officials could overcome any hurdles involved in building the stadium, said Lawrence Rael, chief administrative officer. …
