Air Quality Could Worsen Without Plan.

Report Blames Traffic Increase

Rio Rancho's air is relatively good now, but growth of the city and the region means pollution will get worse without planning.

"We believe the most pressing issue facing Rio Rancho is increasing traffic," Andrew Frye, chairman of the city's Air Quality Task Force, told the City Council on Wednesday.

A big part of the problem is that there are only three main routes into the city from the south: N.M. 528, Unser Boulevard and Golf Course Road, all of which are overburdened with traffic already.

"The task force believes it is imperative that Rio Rancho gets Albuquerque to meet its commitments," Frye said.

The group wants Albuquerque to extend Paseo del Norte through the Petroglyph National Monument, link it to Unser Boulevard and widen Unser. …
