Beckett production combines contrasting formsof stage presentation

You'd think the Irish, of all people, would know how to integrate their emotions into the theater.

Guess again. Madeline Brown, 22, a senior at The College of Santa Fe, spent her six-week internship at Trinity College, Dublin, and said she found pretty near the opposite.

"I'm not so sure they care so much about a character's emotions," she said. American theater, by contrast, tends to place a great deal of emphasis on emotion.

That clash of philosophy rears up in Brown's directing effort, "A Night of Beckett," this weekend at the Weckesser Studio Theatre at the college. …
