Santa Fe Bounces Back From Loss

What a difference a day makes.

After getting hammered by visiting Sandia in its district opener just 24 hours earlier, the Santa Fe High softball team bounced back in dramatic fashion to dismantle visiting St. Michael's in a nondistrict contest Thursday afternoon.

Taking out their frustrations against the overmatched Lady Horsemen, the Demonettes (5-6, 0-1 in 2-5A) pounded out eight hits and got a one-hitter from senior pitcher Melanie Perez in a lopsided 11-0 rout.

Perez struck out the first three batters she faced, had six whiffs by the end of the second inning and finished with nine in a game shortened to five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. …
