Cochiti Lake To Dedicate Public Library Sunday.

The town of Cochiti Lake will dedicate the Cochiti Lsake Public Library with the help of dignitaries on Sunday.

The library began 17 years ago as a community operation staffed by volunteers.

Now that the state has declared it a bona fide public library, Cochiti Lake librarian Clare Gearhart can look forward to $2,500 a year in state funds.

"It's a meaningful move," she said. "We also become a candidate for grant money."

The town, situated at the foot of the Jemez Mountains, has 450 residents. Gearhart said the library is the only one with extended hours of service between Bernalillo and Santa Fe.

More than 7,000 books, reference materials, videos and audio books are available for circulation. …
