Veteran of Three Wars Dies at 81.(Metropolitan)(Obituary)

Retired Army Col. Jim Calhoun, a veteran of three wars, held several top assignments, including liaison between the Pentagon and Congress.

Calhoun, an Albuquerque resident for 30 years, died Feb. 11 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He had been living with cancer for about 10 years. Calhoun would have been 82 on April 26.

Services were held last month at St. John United Methodist Church with burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Al Abbott said he met Calhoun when they were second lieutenants at Duke University in 1943. He described his friend as a bright officer and a wonderful guy with a tremendous sense of humor. …
