* Movie will be shown at two free screenings in Albuquerque today

A Navajo family in Utah's Monument Valley ravaged by uranium mining and torn apart by missionaries' adoption of a 2-year-old child is the focus of an award-winning film being shown today at two free public screenings.

Filmmaker Jeff Spitz will attend both free screenings of "The Return of Navajo Boy" at 2 p.m. in Northrop Hall at the University of New Mexico geology building and at 6:30 p.m. at the Albuquerque Public Library Downtown, 501 Copper Ave. NW.

The film is the first of three in a series sponsored by the Alfonso Ortiz Center for Intercultural Studies, the anthropology department, Maxwell Museum and Arts of the Americas Institute, all at UNM. …
