Woman's Bias Suit Against City Dismissed.(Metro & New Mexico)

A lawsuit against the city of Albuquerque filed by a female employee who wanted to head the city's boxing program resulted in a technical knockout Wednesday.

Senior U.S. District Judge John Edwards Conway dismissed the case midway through jury trial after finding Rita Sanchez-Webster had failed to provide sufficient evidence that the city discriminated against her on the basis of gender. He also dismissed her claims that the city retaliated when she complained.

Sanchez-Webster, 39, broke down in tears after hearing Conway's decision. Her attorneys said later that they planned to appeal.

"We're very grateful for the judge's decision," said Jerry Ortiz y Pino, head of the Family and Community Services Department, as he left the courtroom. …
