Last week, Campbell Farming Corp. presented the town of Edgewood with a Trojan horse in exchange for annexing more than 12,000 acres of property into the town and accepting a development master plan for about 8,000 of those acres.

The area stretches from west of N.M. 14 to the San Pedro Mountains. To annex the acreage, the town will have to first annex four miles of N.M. 344 north to the Campbell Farming property.

The gift being given to Edgewood is a sewer system that will serve the town's commercial corridor along old Route 66 and state Section 16, which is being developed by the state Land Office. …
