City Man Guilty Of 2nd-Degree Murder

An Albuquerque man accused in the 1998 stabbing death of a Torrance County man pleaded guilty on March 22 to second-degree murder in an agreement with the state.

Donavon Ray Garcia, 30, pleaded guilty to killing Torrance County resident Brian E. Jacobs. Garcia faces up to 16 years in prison. A sentencing date has not been scheduled.

Garcia had been charged with first-degree murder and one count each of robbery and tampering with evidence and was scheduled to go to trial on Monday.

But under the plea agreement, the state dropped the robbery and tampering with evidence charges against Garcia. …
