Poll May Aid Charter Commission.

A pivotal question of whether the clerk, treasurer or sheriff should be elected or appointed in a redesigned Bernalillo County government will be asked by a pollster if the Urban County Charter Commission's budget allows.

On March 21, the commission resolved the question of how the new urban county would be administered: by a manager, serving at the pleasure of the County Commission.

But the "make or break issues," as charter Commissioner Raymond G. Sanchez called them, are the size of the future commission and how county officers, including the assessor and probate judge, will be chosen.

The charter group's mission is to produce the framework for a new government that would have home-rule powers. …
