Residents Insist County Has Money Available for Work

The Hillside area in Los Lunas has been trying for the past 16 years to get a sewer line, resident Sue Williams says.

Williams and other residents say the village has been dragging its feet in installing sewer lines and a drainage system in their neighborhood on the west side of the village.

They contend the village now has the money to go ahead with the sewer lines.

"We've been asking for sewers, not necessarily for roads and paving, even though we need that, too," said Victor "Bud" Williams, president of the Western Heights Neighborhood Association, a group of residents of the Hillside area.

The area was annexed to the village without improvements with dirt roads and septic tanks sometime in the late 1970s, Village Manager Phillip Jaramillo said Wednesday. Some of the approximately 300 homes there are from 25 to 30 years old, while some are fairly new, he said. …
