Ex-BIA Employees Must Repay School Lunch Funds.(New Mexico & Metro)

Two sisters who worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs have been ordered to repay more than $200,000 diverted from a federal program to feed underprivileged schoolchildren.

Diana M. Smith, of Phoenix, and Doreen A. Begay, of Henderson, Nev., were accused of misappropriating funds issued through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National School Lunch Program and sent to Kaibeto Boarding School on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona.

According to an investigation by the U.S. Department of Interior's Office of Inspector General in Albuquerque, six checks were to have been forwarded to the BIA's Accounting Management Office in Albuquerque. …
