FEMA Raises Claims-Preparation Compensation.

Expedited Process Also Announced

The federal government's Cerro Grande Fire claims office has increased the amount of money that can be claimed to pay for claims preparation and announced an expedited process for filing business claims.

The office, run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, increased the amount of money that can be claimed for preparing damage claims to 5 percent of their total fire-related compensation, capped at $15,000. Interim rules on filing Cerro Grande-related claims limited the amount to 1 percent of total compensation, capped at $3,000.

Letters are being sent to those who have already settled claims with FEMA from the fire, notifying them they may receive more money, according to a claims office news release. …
