Midtown Restaurant To Reopen in Sandia Casino

The $18 million Casino Sandia will offer a taste of fine New Southwestern dining when it opens in May. The catch is, midtown Albuquerque will lose Portobello, a premier Italian restaurant.

Restaurateurs Terry and Pat Keene, owners of the Artichoke Cafe and Portobello, announced Tuesday they will close Portobello on April 30 to open a new, as-yet-unnamed restaurant May 25 in Casino Sandia.

The new "modern Pueblo-style" casino also opens to the public May 25.

Sandia Pueblo Gov. Stuwart Paisano, during a press conference and contract signing Tuesday, said the Keenes approached the pueblo with a proposal to lease space and provide an upscale restaurant. …
