Visitors to SF Museum Sound Off About Collage.(New Mexico)

SANTA FE Visitors to the Museum of International Folk Art have been sounding off about "Our Lady," the bikini-clad representation of the Virgin Mary that has provoked protests from Catholics who consider the artwork a blasphemy.

Signs written in Spanish and English at the state museum on Santa Fe's Camino Lejo now warn visitors who approach "Our Lady," a photo collage by California artist Alma Lopez, that the exhibit "may be disturbing to certain viewers."

But most comments written in the museum's guest book have praised "Our Lady" or the principle of free expression.

The guest book on Tuesday also contained several notes offering encouragement for the museum's curators and staff. …
