David Bruyere Died Last Week of Cancer

Corrales Fire Department issued one last call last week for one of its own.

David Bruyere, 65, a village councilor and volunteer fire department member, died March 20 of cancer. His memorial service was held Thursday at French Mortuary with a reception held at the Corrales Fire Station.

Corrales Fire Chief Jim Fritts said the department did a last call for Bruyere after his memorial service. Issuing one last call (a page) is a traditional way to pay respects to a deceased member of a fire department, emergency medical service or law enforcement personnel.

"That was one of the hardest things I have ever done," Fritts said of the last call. …
