Da Vinci String Quartet joins friend in Placitas.

Sunday afternoon in Las Placitas Presbyterian Church Willy Sucre looked as happy as Mozart reputedly was when playing in the middle of the harmonies. Sucre's instrument, the viola, was said to be Mozart's preferred choice for chamber music because he liked being immersed in the music from the inside out.

Sucre's "Willy Sucre and Friends" concerts for the Placitas Artists Series have generated some varied music making. This month's friends were the all-female Da Vinci String Quartet from Colorado, who joined in a comfortable, harmonious relationship with Sucre for String Quintets by Brahms and Mozart.

Artists in residence at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, the Da Vinci Quartet also presents an annual series at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. …
