Make APS Schools Parent-Friendly, Consultant Advises.(Metropolitan)

Making Albuquerque schools more parent-friendly will help reduce the high school dropout rate, a national education consultant said Monday.

"We've got to get parents into schools," former New York City school administrator and teacher Franklin Schargel told members of the Albuquerque Rotary Club. "Administrators have made schools less than hospitable."

Schargel said that at his Brooklyn school, the administration surveyed the parents to find the best night for meetings. The school saw parent-teacher association membership increase from 12 to more than 200 after changing from Monday to a combination of Wednesday and Thursday meetings. …
