A Bernalillo County sheriff's deputy who was killed in a crash while speeding to an emergency call earlier this month was driving almost twice the posted speed limit, a department report says.

Angelic Garcia, a standout 26-year-old deputy, died March 4 after the Ford Crown Victoria patrol cruiser she was driving slid off a North Valley road and smashed sideways into a tree.

The department's investigation into the deadly crash took several weeks, and a copy of its report on the wreck was obtained by the Journal on Monday. …
