Value Drop May Lead County To Keep Vacant Building.(Metro & New Mexico)

It's next to a railroad track, it needs carpet and paint, and there's no access from a major street.

But it has parking.

An appraisal last year of the county's Union Square Building, which had housed the district attorney's offices, went into great detail but in the end came down to a number for its worth: $1 million.

That was about $3.2 million less than the county expected. A 1989 appraisal, just after the 1930s building had been renovated, put its value at $4 million. The county paid $3.8 million for it.

The prosecutors' offices moved to new quarters, the Steve Schiff Building, in June. …
