Sustainable Santa Fe Tackles Key Issues

The biggest challenge facing the Sustainable Santa Fe Commission as it prepares a report to the City Council next month may be to explain what it is and what it's been doing the last two years.

Officially, the commission describes sustainability as: "The ability to meet the vital human needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own vital needs, while preserving our culture, conserving our natural resources and protecting our ecosystems."

Commissioner John Otter describes it in simpler terms: "the culture you would like to leave your children and grandchildren in terms of their ability to enjoy life in Santa Fe. …
