Top State Museum Officials Could Do Outside Projects

State officials are moving forward with a proposal to boost compensation of top Museum of New Mexico officials by lining up work outside the normal scope of duties and paid for by private interests.

Based in Santa Fe, the Museum of New Mexico employs more than 250 people and operates five state monuments, archaeology offices and four museums the Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Museum of International Folk Art and the Palace of the Governors.

The regents followed the advice of their Statutory and Organizational Review Committee, which provided a small note of caution that increasing compensation among executive employees could incite resentment among other museum employees. …
