Medical information can be kept on hand

In an emergency, medical personnel can't always get all the information they need about a patient.

The University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy and Wal-Mart have teamed up to try to put a dent in this problem. They are promoting and providing Vials of Life, packets of basic medical information that can get vital facts to emergency medical technicians.

"It's entirely free," said Matthew Borrego, assistant professor of pharmacy. Through the program, people can pick up a Vial of Life kit from any Wal-Mart pharmacy in the state, he said.

In January, almost 100 pharmacy students stuffed the vials with forms on which people can fill in personal medical information, such as regular medications, allergies and health conditions. …
