Councilor Hears Variety of Opinions

Armed with note pads, pencils and strong opinions, local residents crowded around City Councilor Tim Kline on Sunday, firing questions about "fancy facilities" and corporate sponsorship.

The topic was Triple-A baseball, and Kline heard plenty about it during a public meeting at Zia Elementary School.

"I take the heat with the cold," Kline said of the meeting. "Nobody has called me any nasty names."

But residents did have plenty to say. And many sounded skeptical of the effort to build a new ballpark in Downtown Albuquerque.

"I think baseball's mostly a waste of time except for the players," said Harry Murphy, a retired physicist. …
