Lobos Play Best Ball To Reach WNIT Finals.(Sports)

For a while back in November and December, it seemed every other game the University of New Mexico women's played was against a Top 25 foe.

And for a while, it looked like a bad idea. The Lobos kept losing, a few close (54-49 to LSU, 66-59 to Mississippi State), a few not so (80-56 to Texas Tech, 79-58 to Florida). They were too good to accept moral wins against those teams, not good enough to get real ones.

"This team was dormant for a while," UNM head coach Don Flanagan says.

Not anymore, since there's a cherry and silver lining to those seemingly dark days.

New Mexico (22-12) will play host to the championship game of the Women's National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday night. …
