In a way it makes sense that one of the creators of Fred Flintstone and George Jetson would come from New Mexico, the home of Sandia Man and the birthplace of the atomic age. And Yogi Bear could have been Smokey Bear's weird cousin.

Fred, George and Yogi were part of the zany, entertaining world of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Hanna, who was born in Melrose on July 14, 1910, died Thursday.

Hanna and Barbera began their 50-year collaboration in 1937. …
