Supervisor Is There For People in Need.(Career Marketplace)

Sometimes there is no telling about life. Just ask Beth Wheeler. Twenty-five years ago, her dream was to own a gift shop. Now she says she is happier than she has ever been in a completely different field, caring for three women with developmental disabilities.

"This is just being a buddy to somebody and helping them out," Wheeler says of her work. "If I would have known that I could have been a best friend to one of these people and gotten paid for it, I would have done this from the very beginning."

Wheeler, 47, is a residential supervisor for ARCA, New Mexico's largest nonprofit provider of home care to people with mental retardation and other disabilities such as cerebral palsy and autism. …
