Lobos Are More Than Simply Passing Fancy.(Sports)

The numbers are in from the University of New Mexico's spring football practice, showing why the Lobos' passing attack fared much better than it did a year ago at this time.

"The offense passed the ball 246 times more than it did last spring," coach Rocky Long says. "That's why we got better at throwing and catching the ball."

Junior quarterback Rudy Caamano entrenched himself as the starter going into next fall, but Long says he's concerned about the backup role.

"Rudy had an excellent spring," Long says. "But the other quarterbacks were very inconsistent, and we need one to develop quickly in the fall so we can get him reps. …
