It's said that one person's trash is another's treasure. It now can be said that one city's ballast is another's bonanza.

The contents of the Soukup & Thomas International Balloon & Airship Museum of Mitchell, S.D., are headed for a permanent home in Albuquerque.

What a stroke of good fortune and what timing. Perhaps the world's largest collection of balloon and airship artifacts is coming in time to help fill the 52,000-square-foot Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum when it opens at the Balloon Fiesta Park in 2003.

The collection includes historic balloons, gondolas and gas valves dating back to the 1700s and some wonderful airship artifacts, such as china and other objects from the Graf and Hindenburg zeppelins. …
