The Rio Rancho Softball Invitational got started with its quarterfinal round Friday as Cibola, La Cueva, Santa Fe and the host Rams advanced with victories.

Rio Rancho, which upended Sandia in its opening game, will face Santa Fe an extra-inning winner over Clovis in an 8 a.m. semifinal today. The 10 a.m. semifinal features Cibola, a comeback victor over Artesia, against La Cueva, which destroyed Ruidoso in a quarterfinal. The championship game is at 2 p.m., also today.

With a 10-0 lead and the game already out of hand, La Cueva pitcher Heather Swingle hit a fly ball down the left-field line for a two-run homer. …
