If Lobos Win, Pit Hosts Title Game

The combatants are the type to make each other lose sleep. The Hawaii Wahine, on the other hand, had no choice in the matter.

Tonight's opponent for New Mexico in the semifinal round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament got into Albuquerque about 11 a.m. Friday. The team left Honolulu at 7:40 p.m. Thursday and had layovers in Maui and Los Angeles.

"We used to take red-eye flights, and we quit," says Vince Goo, in his 14th season as Hawaii's coach. "It's like losing a night's sleep. But we're at the mercy of the (WNIT)."

The wakeup call for both teams comes in the form of a berth in the championship game, which tournament officials say will be at the Pit if UNM makes it, probably Wednesday. …
