Grand Jury Indicts Woman For Leaving Son, 5, in Car

A Rio Rancho woman says authorities unjustly charged her with child abuse after she left her 5-year-old son in her car "for less than three minutes" on a January afternoon while she shopped on Southern Boulevard.

According to a Rio Rancho police report, off-duty Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Natalie Jasler had Rio Rancho police dispatched about 4 p.m. Jan. 25 after observing Stephen Adams sitting unsupervised in a car in the Family Dollar parking lot and after going into the store to try to locate the parents.

The boy's mother, Alison Adams, 38, of Rio Rancho, encountered Jasler after she exited the store and found Jasler attempting to speak with her son, the report says.

After Jasler identified herself as a police officer, Adams asked her if she was on duty, and when Jasler said she was not, Adams then became uncooperative and swore at Jasler, the report says. …
